Now is the time

On one side, people who have used their 20s to learn and grow, to find … themselves and their dreams, people who know what works and what doesn’t, who have pushed through to become real live adults.
Then there’s the other kind, who are hanging onto college, or high school even, with all their might. They’ve stayed in jobs they hate, because they’re too scared to get another one. They’ve stayed with men or women who are good but not great, because they don’t want to be lonely. … they mean to develop intimate friendships, they mean to stop drinking like life is one big frat party. But they don’t do those things, so they live in an extended adolescence, no closer to adulthood than when they graduated.
Don’t be like that. Don’t get stuck.
Move, travel, take a class, take a risk.
There is a season for wildness and a season for settledness, and this is neither.
This season is about becoming.
Don’t lose yourself at happy hour, but don’t lose yourself on the corporate ladder either. Stop every once in a while and go out to coffee or climb in bed with your journal.
Ask yourself some good questions like: “Am I proud of the life I’m living? What have I tried this month? … Do the people I’m spending time with give me life, or make me feel small? Is there any brokenness in my life that’s keeping me from moving forward?”
Now is your time. Walk closely with people you love, and with people who believe … life is a grand adventure. Don’t get stuck in the past, and don’t try to fast-forward yourself into a future you haven’t yet earned. Give today all the love and intensity and courage you can, and keep traveling honestly along life’s path."

it makes me happy
it makes me happy that i found a job that i love. sure, there are days that i wonder about my sanity. but in general i leave everyday so excited about my career. teaching is such a challenging and exciting job. the students test me to be better; to be more. everyday is completely different with new circumstances and ideas. the kids inspire me to be the best teacher i can be and everyday i feel that i am making a difference.
it makes me happy that mcdonalds drinks are $1.00. extra large cup of caffeine. thank you sir.

it makes me happy that there is a app called snapchat. life is suddenly so much more entertaining.
it makes me happy that i have such an incredible husband. i am so grateful for everything that he is for me. he is my best friend, my rock and my happiness. i love our adventures and our simple times together. i love who i am when i am with him. i love who he makes me want to be. it makes me happy that i found him to spend the rest of eternity with.

wow
if you have 7 minutes, take the time to watch this. this is incredible.
on a completely unrelated note. parent teacher conferences. they are challenging and nerve racking. these kids are in 2nd grade! why are some parents so intense?! lol
dont get me wrong, i love meeting parents and praising my good students. but it is hard to give praise for 15 minutes. however, 15 minutes is never enough when it is a problem child. =)
it is good to keep parents informed but i teach for 7 hours and then i have 3-4 hours of conferences after school for 3 days. i am a little pooped.
thank goodness i am going off track in a week in a half.

for reals
i am about to get a little religious.
recently i have had a few experiences that have made me truly think about what i believe and what i want to do with that faith.
the first experience is when i saw LIFE OF PI. it is such a good book and the movie was a pretty good representation. but my favorite part is at the end, when pi asked the author, so what story did you like better? and once the writer answered, pi simply stated "and so it is with god." such a simple sentence and yet it had me thinking for hours. there are so many stories of god on this planet; so many different ways to show our devotion and faith. there are so many different stories and it is up to us to choose which story best fits for us. i love movies that make us think and re-evaluate. this movie made me think about what i truly believe and why i believe it. it made me think about the story that best fits for me. if you would like to know more about it, you can visit http://mormon.org/
the second experience is when i went down to manti, utah. ry surprised me with an awesome weekend getaway. to read more about it you can go here he continues to amaze me. but while i was in the temple, that question came back into my head. "what story do you like better" and i really thought about what it was about the story that i liked. then i read alma 5 in the book of mormon and it reminded me of the meeting i will have with my savior. can i look at him once i die and tell him i have done everything possible to be a disciple of him?
no matter what religion we are, our end goal is the same. to get back to our god, or savior and feel that we have done our best. i feel that is the beauty of religion. we all believe our own story, we all strive for different goals and yet we are united in our goals to be a better person.

Growing up, early years:
*Where did you grow up? Describe it.
I was lucky enough to grow up on cheam avenue. it was a little 3 bedroom house in a cul de sac full of children.i shared a room with my sister who always made such a mess in our bedroom {totally joking... i was the messy roommate}i have so many fond memories with that house. playing in our doughboy pool, running around in the cul de sac, growing closer in that house. it was the perfect place to grow up in.
*What was your earliest memory?
i have vague memories from pre-school times but my first true memory that i remember with absolute clarity is preview day at white oak elementary for kindergarten. i remember walking through all the classes meeting the teachers. and then i walked into mrs. frederick's classroom. she was sitting on the floor playing her guitar and singing. i was mesmerized and knew that was the class i wanted to be in.
*What games did you play as a child?
i was a drama queen. nothing made me happier than singing and acting. luckily my sister and friends loved to play with me. =) we played house, hair salon, fairy land, anything that required our imagination. we were also really into making movies. we would come up with scripts and songs to sing. then we would enlist my mom or record it ourselves. we had so much fun coming up with the movie and then acting it out. all those videos have mysteriously disappeared but they are great memories.
*Where did you go to school?
i went to school at white oak elementary school. i went there k-5th and then moved to middle school for 6-8th.
*Who were your friends?
i was fortunate enough to have amazing friends in elementary school. hannah, drew, erica, erika,sydney, and so many more. too many to name. they helped to make elementary school so much fun. i was even fortunate enough to have them all live near me so we hung out all the time. making movies, running around the neighborhood, and making so many awesome memories. thank you to those friends who made growing up such a great adventure.
*Who were your favorite teacher and why?
i had incredible teachers in elementary school. white oak elementary was filled with outstanding teachers. mrs. mitchell (2nd) taught me to believe in myself. mrs. ginn (4th) taught me to never give up. mrs. frederick(K) taught me to be myself and love myself for it. but my favorite teacher has to be mrs. beley (3rd) she was known as a hard teacher. she challenged her students and expected them to rise to the challenge. she had out of this world lessons. we made life size whales, memorized poems, dug up dinosaur bones and became inventors. mrs. beley taught me that hard work pays off.
